Rita Young joined The Consortium Board in September of 2011 at a time when The Consortium was going through unprecedented change. Rita was instrumental in assisting The Consortium through a major reorganization and helped to establish the organization’s independence while emphasizing the importance of providing training and support for staff throughout the process. Rita was always quick to offer her nonprofit expertise and her business connections to strengthen The Consortium which ultimately resulted in enhanced resources to improve student health in Colorado.  Through her leadership The Consortium was able to grow, serve additional school districts, and expand health services to children throughout the state.  In honor of her memory and her dedication to improving health services to children, The Consortium has set up a memorial training scholarship in her name. The intent of the scholarship is to further enhance student health services by assisting school personnel in gaining additional health care knowledge and expertise through training, workshops or conferences.The Rita Young Memorial Scholarship will award at least one scholarship on an annual basis to a school district employee(s) to participate in additional health training.

The purpose of the Rita Young Scholarship is to enhance a current school district employees’ knowledge in the areas of Medicaid, school health and health services. 

Health training can include workshops, conferences or symposiums.  The scholarship can be used for registration, travel, meals and lodging in order to attend a symposium, training, workshop or conference.
