Julie Wilken

Clinical Manager, Children’s Hospital Colorado

Julie is the Clinical Manager of the School Health Program and School-Based Dental Center at Children’s Hospital Colorado (CHCO), where she leads services for medically complex students across schools and childcares in the Denver Metro area. Before joining CHCO in 2022, she served as Director of Nursing and Student Health for Denver Public Schools, overseeing 120+ school nurses, managing district COVID-19 response efforts, expanding telehealth partnerships, and serving as ADA Compliance Officer.

Julie also spent a decade with Jeffco Public Schools as a school nurse and Director of Health Services, leading 75 nurses, Medicaid programs, and COVID incident command. She holds a BSN from the University of Northern Colorado and a master’s in healthcare leadership and medical information technology from the University of Denver, with a focus on telehealth and EMR systems. With 27 years of nursing experience—14 in clinical care and 13 in schools and community health—Julie is a nationally certified school nurse and a recognized leader in school health innovation.

She has presented at state and national conferences, testified on school health legislation, and is an expert in emergency preparedness, professional development, and policy development for large systems. Julie serves on the board of The Consortium – non-profit organization supporting school Medicaid, is an active member of the National Association of School Nurses, as well as the local chapter in Colorado, member of the Colorado Alliance of School Health, and the Youth Healthcare Alliance.
